Big Buddha Phuket

Big Buddha Phuket

One of Phuket’s most revered and popular landmarks is the eastward facing Big Buddha. Sitting atop the Nakkerd hills, this 45 metres high image sits facing eastward towards Chalong and Kata and is easily the most visible landmark in the area.

This beautiful and inspiring site offers a 360 degree view of the sweeping vistas of Kata, Phuket Town, Karon and Chalong Bay. Atop the site’s peaceful hilltop, about the only sounds you hear are the tinkling of small bells, flags ruffling in the breeze and soft dharma music in the background. The image itself is layered with smooth white Burmese marble that gleams in the sunlight.

Dos and Don’ts of Big Buddha Phuket

There are donation boxes located around the compound and funds go to keep the landmark maintained. Near the base of the statue is a hall displaying the history of the building of the site. When you visit, please avoid beachwear, short skirts and T-shirts with offensive texts or images. If you feel you are dressed inappropriately, there are sarongs available free of charge at the visitor center. The site is open from 8 a.m. until about 7:30 p.m. One of the best places to view a gorgeous Thailand sunset is around 6:30 at the top of this location.
